CEO Update – August 2022

29 Aug 2022

The venue’s fundamental purpose may be common knowledge to most, yet we are proud to reaffirm this mission to make a difference. While delivering successful events we are driven to make a difference for our clients, stakeholders and within our community as we operate an extraordinary venue with extraordinary people who win, run and support extraordinary events.

As the centrepiece in the A$3.4 billion rejuvenation of the precinct including the convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities as well as the public domain, the investment in the venue and the ability to deliver world class events was always understood to generate great benefits to local and regional economies through the direct and indirect expenditure of event attendees and through our long supply chains. Beyond the venue’s immediate audience, ICC Sydney reaches across the local surrounds including in the Darling Harbour precinct – which traditionally attracts over 20 million visitors annually – and into regional New South Wales communities through our food and beverage supplier relationships.

Alongside an increase in events, we continue to expand our core workforce as we welcome thousands of visitors who in turn contribute spend into the local economy as they not only attend events, but dine in the local restaurants, shop in the stores, stay in neighbouring hotels, visit attractions, and participate in local tourist activities.

Constant small improvements to the venue’s evolving services and products continue to put the experience of clients and delegates first. By developing innovative solutions like Connect Hub – a one stop destination for digital event solutions – and expanding our event delivery capabilities with new industry-leading equipment, we ensure the success of every event by working with our valued clients to meet ever evolving needs.

Beyond delivering economic benefits, and in alignment with the ASM Global ACTS worldwide sustainability and equity program, ICC Sydney consistently strives to make a difference in our community. Through our event Legacy Program and the partnerships that underpin it, we support event organisers to make a positive social impact across five streams including First Nations, Environmental Sustainability, Creative Industries, Innovators and Entrepreneurs and Generation Next.  Recent collaborations with community partners have been added to our Legacy Program guide including Science for Wildlife, a leading not-for-profit wildlife conservation organisation based in the Blue Mountains, Jannawi Dance Clan, Marcus Corowa, Luke Carroll, Indigiearth, Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative and Stan Grant.

Importantly, we are proud to strengthen our ties with Australia’s First Nations through the initiatives of our second Reconciliation Action Plan as we reaffirm our commitment to recognise and celebrate First Nations people and culture. As an iconic destination, which stands and operates on the traditional lands of the Gadigal clan of the Eora Nation, ICC Sydney has a unique opportunity to foster and promote Reconciliation. We are committed to meaningful engagement with First Nations communities and presenting First Nations culture and stories to the many thousands of visitors walking through our doors each year.

Equally importantly, we strive to make a difference to our extraordinary team – in our organisation every role is appreciated. ICC Sydney remains committed to being an employer of choice and providing our team with a great place to work that creates meaningful and fulfilling careers. We strive to foster a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity – one that rewards our team members as they live out our values of Integrity, Creativity and Connected as they put our valued clients’ and stakeholders’ needs first.

It is our caring, passionate team of events professionals who have ensured the successful delivery of recent events such as Integrate & Security Exhibition, the 2022 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards and the Australian Clean Energy Summit.

We look forward to collaborating with you to make a difference through your next event.
