06 Aug 2019

International Convention Centre Sydney’s (ICC Sydney) design has continued to draw praise with the transformation of Darling Harbour, which the venue sits at the heart of, awarded Best Urban Planning/Landscape Architecture at The Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design International Architecture Awards and the Gold Award for Architectural Design: Urban at the Good Design Award this month.

The awards recognised the urban design for the entire 20-hectare public precinct, designed by HASSELL, and the venue’s integration, designed by HASSELL + Populous, into the thriving city hub.

General Manager and Project Company Representative of the Darling Harbour Live Project, Peter Robertson said ICC Sydney and the $3.4 billion redevelopment of Darling Harbour had been embraced by the community and visitors of the city.

“Darling Harbour has become one of Sydney’s most vibrant and lively precincts in all of Sydney. From delegates attending events at ICC Sydney to families enjoying fun in the sun, this redevelopment is drawing new and old visitors to the picturesque waterside location,” Robertson said.

CEO of ICC Sydney, Geoff Donaghy, said the continued international recognition that the venue and precinct received further enhanced the city’s brand as a leading and global destination for business events.

“Sitting at the epicentre of Darling Harbour, ICC Sydney acts as a connection point between events, delegates and the local community. These connections enable collaboration, knowledge exchange and cultural experiences that showcase the very best of Sydney on a global stage.

“The vibrancy and innovative surroundings of the revitalised precinct provide our guests with experiences unlike any other destination in the world, further strengthening Sydney’s reputation as a leading events destination,” Donaghy said.

A NSW Government project, ICC Sydney was delivered in partnership with Darling Harbour Live, comprising Lendlease, Hostplus, First State Super, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless FM.
